STARTS AT 7:00 PM

Hello, My name is ______________________ , an adult child of an alcoholic/dysfunctional family. Welcome to the Phoenix, a meeting of Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families.  Please turn off all cell phones and mute your microphone when not speaking during the meeting in order to reduce background noise. We meet to share the experience we had as children growing up in alcoholic or dysfunctional homes. That experience Infected us then, and it Affects us today. By practicing the 12 steps, focusing on “The Solution”, and by accepting a higher power of our understanding, we find Freedom from the effects of Alcoholism and other family Dysfunction. We identify with “The Problem, The Laundry List” and learn to live in “The Solution”, One Day at a Time.

  • Would someone please read one of the Laundry Lists?  Page 586   BRB
  • Would someone please read the Solution?   Page 590    BRB
  • Would someone please read the 12 steps?   Page 591    BRB

You may have related to our readings even though there was no apparent alcoholism in your home. This is common because dysfunction can occur in a family without the presence of addiction. We welcome you.

  • Is this anyone's first meeting or are you in your first 24 hours?   (If yes, clap as a group and say "Please introduce yourself.  We do not do this to embarrass you but to get to know you.  Thank you.")

Support and Fellowship:  In this meeting, we encourage reaching out to each other in mutual support and fellowship as “fellow travelers”.  Everybody who wants to is encouraged to share their phone number by posting it in the ZOOM Chat. In addition, please indicate there if you would like to have your number added to our list for text message reminders, which are sent out each week before the meeting.  If you have accessed this meeting via a ZOOM ID, please send me a CHAT message with your number. I will add it for you after the meeting.  On our site: FullyExpress.me, we also have additional meetings:  there is a Wednesday night ACA meeting at this same time:  From the Ashes.  And currently, we are taking names in order to set up our next step study group.  Please indicate in CHAT if you'd like a reminder for the ACA meeting or to sign up for the step study meeting.

Anonymity:  What you see and hear at this meeting should remain at this meeting. We do not talk about another person’s story or experiences to other people. Please respect the anonymity of those who share with us today.

Crosstalk:  We do not crosstalk during this meeting which means we do not interrupt, refer to, or comment on what another person has said during the meetings. We do not crosstalk because adult children come from family backgrounds where feelings and perceptions were judged as wrong or defective.  We accept without comment what others say because it is TRUE FOR THEM!  We work toward taking more responsibility for our own lives rather than giving advice to others.

Any group member who believes he or she has been crosstalked can ask the secretary of the meeting to read our full cross talk rules.

Literature:  We strongly recommend obtaining Adult Children: Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families (our "Big Red Book" or BRB), Strengthening My Recovery, which are the 2 books we will be reading from tonight.  Other conference-approved literature and teddy bears are available for purchase from https://shop.adultchildren.org. We strongly recommend these materials for the recovery process.  If you are unable to afford the purchase, the NorCal ACA Intergroup can help (limited to members requesting with a US address)!  They will purchase and send you at no charge a Big Red Book or Strengthening My Recovery.  Please contact Courbet at 916-833-6074.

Reading:  This is a book study and sharing meeting.  We will stop the reading at 7:35-7:40 and begin open sharing until a little after 8:00.

  • Would someone please read the daily affirmation from Strengthening My Recovery?
  • We will begin reading and sharing from The Big Red Book.
    • Members volunteer to read, and do so until they pass.
    • When a member has passed, please feel free to share or relate to the subject matter just read and how it affects you.
    • Please keep your share to 2-3 minutes so that others may share.
    • When everyone has had a chance to share, another member is encouraged to read.
    • We can begin reading now from page...
  • (At 7:35-7:40 PM) We will now begin open sharing.
    • Open sharing on our readings or any other pressing ACA related topic ends a little after 8:00 P.M. followed by announcements.
    • Please limit your sharing to 2 or 3 minutes to allow everyone a chance to share.
    • We can begin open sharing now...

7th Tradition:  It’s now time for the 7th Tradition – Our group collects 7th tradition contributions to cover our operating expenses and we pass along any excess to the World Service Organization, known as WSO, to the ACA NorCal Intergroup and Region 6. When you are able, please donate, so that we may keep this meeting alive and well.  As a meeting, we are now working towards meeting our annual ZOOM subscription due in January.  After a recent distribution of splits to other service organizations, we now have $133 accumulated towards that goal. We will now pause the meeting for one (or two) minutes of silent meditation to give everyone the chance to either contemplate what has been shared in this meeting or contribute using Venmo, PayPal or personal check (see below) Newcomers are encouraged to buy literature or books and are welcome to contribute to the 7th tradition when they are ready.

For 7th Tradition Donations:  May be made via Venmo, PayPal or by personal check by arrangement.  Donations via Venmo:  @Rebecca-McGuire-32 and the last 4 of her phone number are 0874 for your first donation.  Donations via PayPal:  ACARebeccaC and the last 4 of her phone number are 0874.  For both Venmo and Pay Pal, please indicate "personal" in the service/goods line to avoid a 3% service charge

Would someone please read the tradition of the month from 12 Traditions?

Announcements: Now it is time for the:

  • Secretary’s announcements
  • Any other announcements
  • We have a business meeting each quarter when announced. Anybody can request a special meeting to be held for any topic. Business meetings are held immediately following the next regularly scheduled ACA meeting.

**********

Thank you for being here and please keep coming back. All you need to do is show up!  If you did not have a chance to share, please speak to someone after the meeting. This meeting will be kept open so you can do so.

Would someone please read The Promises or Bill of Rights?

Let’s stand in a circle and hold hands as _________ closes the meeting with the ACA Serenity Prayer and the Self-Love Exercise.

Keep Coming Back, It Works if You Work it; So Work it, Because You’re Worth It!
