Hello, My name is ______________________ , an adult child of an alcoholic/dysfunctional family. Welcome to the Phoenix, a meeting of Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families. Please turn off all cell phones and mute your microphone when not speaking during the meeting in order to reduce background noise. We meet to share the experience we had as children growing up in alcoholic or dysfunctional homes. That experience Infected us then, and it Affects us today. By practicing the 12 steps, focusing on “The Solution”, and by accepting a higher power of our understanding, we find Freedom from the effects of Alcoholism and other Family Dysfunction. We identify with “The Problem, The Laundry List” and learn to live in “The Solution”, One Day at a Time.
You may have related to our readings even though there was no apparent alcoholism in your home. This is common because dysfunction can occur in a family without the presence of addiction. We welcome you.
Support and Fellowship: In this meeting, we encourage reaching out to each other in mutual support and fellowship as “fellow travelers”. Everybody who wants to is encouraged to share their phone number by posting it in the ZOOM Chat. On our site: FullyExpress.me, we also have additional meetings: there is a Wednesday night ACA meeting at this same time: "From the Ashes".
Anonymity: What you see and hear at this meeting should remain at this meeting. We do not talk about another person’s story or experiences to other people. Please respect the anonymity of those who share with us today.
Crosstalk:
In this meeting we do not crosstalk, interrupt or make comments about other people’s shares. We do this for two reasons: first, when we were growing up no one listened to us, they told us our feelings were wrong. Second, as adults we are accustomed to taking care of other people and not taking responsibility for our lives. In this meeting we speak about our own experiences and feelings; we accept without comment what others say because it is TRUE FOR THEM, and we work toward taking more responsibility in our lives rather than giving advice to others.
Any group member who believes he or she has been crosstalked can ask the secretary of the meeting to read our full cross talk rules.
Literature: We strongly recommend obtaining Adult Children: Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families (our "Big Red Book" or BRB), Strengthening My Recovery, which are the 2 books we will be reading from tonight. Other conference-approved literature and teddy bears are available for purchase from https://shop.adultchildren.org. We strongly recommend these materials for the recovery process. If you are unable to afford the purchase, the NorCal ACA Intergroup can help (limited to members requesting with a US address)! They will purchase and send you at no charge a Big Red Book or Strengthening My Recovery. Please contact Courbet at 916-833-6074.
Reading: This is a book study and sharing meeting. We will stop the reading at 7:35-7:40 and begin open sharing until a little after 8:00.
7th Tradition: It’s now time for the 7th Tradition – Our group collects 7th tradition contributions to cover our operating expenses and we pass along any excess to the World Service Organization, known as WSO, to the ACA NorCal Intergroup and Region 6. When you are able, please donate, so that we may keep this meeting alive and well. Currently, we are saving towards our yearly ZOOM subscription due in January. We will now pause the meeting for one (or two) minutes of silent meditation to give everyone the chance to either contemplate what has been shared in this meeting or contribute using Venmo, PayPal or personal check (see below). Newcomers are encouraged to buy literature or books and are welcome to contribute to the 7th tradition when they are ready.
For 7th Tradition Donations: May be made via Venmo, PayPal or by personal check by arrangement. Donations via Venmo: @Rebecca-McGuire-32 and the last 4 of her phone number are 0874 for your first donation. Donations via PayPal: ACARebeccaC and the last 4 of her phone number are 0874. For both Venmo and Pay Pal, please indicate "personal" in the service/goods line to avoid a 3% service charge
Would someone please read the tradition of the month from 12 Traditions? BRB pg 592

WSO INFO and OPPORTUNITIES for Service: We currently have an Intergroup (ACANorCal) Representative but we do need a WSO (ACA World Service) Representative. And always, the positions of Secretary and Treasurer are both available, the current secretary/treasurer is willing to train someone for either role, since ZOOM meetings are a bit different that face-to-face meetings.
ACA NAME CHANGE Vote: https://adultchildren.org/fellowship-group-voting/ As a group we have declined the name change proposed. Currently we do not have a WSO delegate so we, as a group, cannot vote on this issue. Please see more at this site if interested.
EVENTS: Holidays can be a difficult time for adult children. Every major holiday, TEL0427 (a telephone meeting) holds Marathon meetings. The next is Thanksgiving, then Christmas Eve/Day for 46 hours, and New Year’s Eve/Day for another 46 hours of back to back meetings.
This Thanksgiving Marathon meets: Thursday, November 27 at 5am EST until Friday, November 28 at 3am EST. The call-in number is: 712-432-8808 access code 247676#
